Wrestlers, Actors and Vendors… Oh My!

Sasha Bush The Ashland Beacon If you find yourself in downtown Ashland next weekend you may want to visit the Highlands Museum and Discovery Center. On Saturday, September 10 from 12-5 p.m., The Highlands Museum and Discovery Center, located at 1620 Winchester Avenue, will be hosting “The Highlands Pop Con 2022: Sponsored by Time Warp.” You will find all sorts of fun things to do at this year’s Pop Con. There will be numerous vendors set up during the event offering you some of the most unique items such as Funko Pops, action figures, cards, comics and more. Time Warp’s Earl Mollette shared with us, “Time Warp and The Highlands Museum wants to bring the community together with fun activities such as shows and cons with collectibles, meet and greets with actors, athletes, and wrestlers. There will be free magic and Pokémon tournaments as well as gaming demonstrations for board games and Warhammer. There will also be a cosplay contest for adults and kids. We will have several vendors from around the tri state” In addition to all the great vendors being present at this year’s Pop Con, you will also get the chance to take part in some pretty cool meet and greets with some of the most iconic wrestlers of the wrestling world. One such wrestler is Brutus ‘The Barber’ Beefcake, whose real name is Ed Leslie. Brutus ‘The Barber’ Beefcake is quite possibly one of the most legendary main event wrestling superstars of all time. You may also know him by some of his earlier alias’s… Ed Boulder, Dizzy Golden, Dizzy Hogan, Baron Beefcake, Brutus Beefcake, Brother Bruti, The Butcher, The Butcher, The Booty Man or The Disciple. Alongside ‘The Barber’ will be Greg ‘The Hammer’ Valentine, who was a top ranked super star from the 1970s-1990s. Greg ‘The Hammer’ Valentine has been said to have been one of the most rugged competitors to ever grace the wrestling rings of the NWA, WCW, and WWE. What’s really cool about both wrestlers being at the same event together is the history that the two share. Together the two share the WWE World Team Title for 1885, they were called “The Dream Team.” If you are more into movies and television, then you don’t want to miss this year’s Pop Con. In addition to the great wrestling talent that will be present at the Highlands Pop Con 2022, you can also meet some very well-known actors that you may recognize from some of our favorite movies, cartoons, and videogames. One such actor is Isaac C. Singleton Jr., an American actor who has appeared in numerous film, television, and video games that we all know and love. Singleton is perhaps best known for his roles in the 2003 comedy Anger Management where he starred in the role of the irate air marshal. Singleton has also played roles in the ever so popular Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Peral as the pirates Bo’s son as well as making an appearance in the 2016’s Deadpool movie as the character of Boothe. Another great actor that will be present at this year’s Pop Con will be Tom Sizemore who has played many supporting roles over the years in films such as Born on the Fourth of July, Ture Romance, Natural Born Killers, Heat, Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, Pearl Harbor and many more.
