The Ashland Beacon
If you’re like me, then you enjoy shopping for others for the holidays. It’s a time of year that I personally look forward to every year. The spirit of Christmas is all about giving, so with every gift I purchase I try to make sure that I am not only giving to the person its intended for, but also I like to make sure that I give back to our local community. What better way to accomplish both then by shopping locally. The Edge Business Center, located at 1100 Our Lady’s Way in Ashland will be hosting its second annual Shop Local Holiday Market on Saturday, November 26 which happens to be “Small Business Saturday,” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission will be $5 to get in.
Lauren Young runs the wedding venue, Venue at The Edge, and is the official organizer of this amazing event. Young shared, “We have ordered custom ‘SHOP LOCAL’ shopping bags from Rail City Clothing, a locally owned business located downtown Russell. The first 500 shoppers who comes in will receive one of these bags. To make it even more fun, there will be 10 mystery bags mixed in that are full of gifts and/or gift cards from our vendors. We will also be donating a portion of the earnings to a local nonprofit, Revitalize Russell, for upcoming projects in our community.”
This event offers the perfect opportunity to support more than 60 locally owned small businesses conveniently located in the same place. The Shop Local Holiday Market offers a little something for everyone. Young shared with us that the inspiration for this event came from knowing that after COVID hit many of the locally owned businesses had been hit hard and were struggling. Lauren stated, “We wanted to use the space that we are so fortunate to have available (The Edge Business Center) to help our fellow small business owners succeed after such a challenging season. After dreaming up some ideas, we decided on hosting a ‘shop local’ market where local vendors could come and sell their products. What could be better than hosting it during the holiday season to create a fun and festive event for EVERYONE after such a long year!” So, if you are at a loss as to what you should get for that difficult to buy for person, I highly recommend that you check out this amazing event.
