BOYS 64th DISTRICT
ASHLAND 18-10
Ashland closed the regular season with a pair of wins this week with defeats of Rowan County and Spring Valley.
Ashland drained 16 triples in a 75-44 rout of Rowan County. Zander Carter paced the Tomcats with 24 points while going 6 of 7 from downtown. Rheyce Deboard had 17.
Ashland closed regular season play with a 78-48 thumping of Spring Valley while draining another 16 threes. Carter and Deboard paced the Tomcats with 24 and 17, respectively.
Ashland will meet Rose Hill in the opening round of the 64th District Tournament on Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. The tournament will be played at Boyd County Middle School.
BOYD 21-5
Boyd County turned in a 3-1 mark this week with wins over Raceland, Elliott County and Perry County Central before closing the week with a loss to Harlan County.
Five players finished in double figures while hitting 16 threes in a 93-50 rout of Raceland. Cole Hicks and Jacob Spurlock led the way with 19 points each. Hicks went 5 of 7 from downtown. Rhett Holbrook kicked in 11. Alex Martin and Jason Ellis each had 10.
Boyd County routed Elliott County, 96-43 led by Spurlock’s 20. The freshman went 6 of 8 from beyond the arc. The Lions hit 18 threes in the win. Hicks netted 18. Drew Smith had 14. Martin scored 12 and Ellis had 10.
Boyd County outlasted Perry County Central for a 71-70, overtime win. Spurlock had 25 in the win while hitting seven 3s. Hicks poured in 19. Trey Holbrook netted four points but grabbed 12 rebounds.
Boyd County closed the week with a 71-63 loss to Harlan County. Hicks paced the Lions with 15. Rhett Holbrook had 14. Ellis finished with 11. Spurlock had 10.
Boyd County ends the regular season with a busy slate of three games. They welcome Russell Monday night then travel to Morgan County on Tuesday and East Carter on Thursday. The Lions will play Fairview in the opening round of the 64th District Tournament on Feb. 21st at 7 p.m.
FAIRVIEW 14-14
The Eagles roll into the final week of the regular season on a three-game winning streak after a 3-0 finish this week.
Steven Day led the Eagles with 25 points in a 94-74 hammering of Rose Hill. Tamel Smith had 20. Izaac Johnson kicked in 16. Tanner Johnson had 14.
Fairview survived a near disaster after coughing up a 24-point lead to Lawrence County with a Smith 3 at the horn to win 80-77. It was his 7th three in the contest. No stats were reported in the win.
Fairview closed the week with a 71-62 win over Raceland. Smith led the way with 21 points, five 3s including his final triple that put the Eagles in front for good in the fourth quarter. Day kicked in 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Tanner Johnson had 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Fairview visits Russell Tuesday and Maysville St. Patrick on Friday. The Eagles will play Boyd County in the opening round of the 64th District Tournament on Feb. 21st at 7 p.m.
ROSE HILL 4-22
Rose Hill fell in all four contests this week, losing to Truth Guardian Christian, Fairview, Lewis County and Jenkins.
Rose Hill came up short to Truth Guardian Christian, 49-45. Christian Blevins had 18. John VanHoose added 11.
The Royals lost to Fairview, 94-74. Collin Wilburn had 23 points and hit seven 3s. Benton Ruck-er had 20. VanHoose and Blevins each had 14. VanHoose grabbed 10 rebounds.
Rose Hill fell to Lewis County, 72-52 and Jenkins, 70-38. No stats were reported in the losses.
Rose Hill travels to Truth Guardian Christian Tuesday, Tolsia Thursday and welcomes Hannan on Saturday.
BOYS 63rd DISTRICT
RUSSELL 22-4
Russell saw its 16-game winning streak snapped Friday night but bounced back with a win over Bath County Saturday to close the week at 2-1.
Russell won its 16th in a row with a 72-39 hammering of Elliott County. Damon Charles led the Devils with 14 points. Zaylen Carter had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Carson Blum added 10.
Russell fell to Greenup County, 58-42 for its first loss since losing to Fleming County on Dec. 16. Charles led the Devils with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Gavin Carter added 11.
Russell ended the week with an 80-67 win over Bath County. No stats were reported.
Russell visits Boyd County Monday, welcomes Fairview Tuesday and travels to Rowan County Thursday.
Russell will play Raceland in the opening round of the 63rd District tournament in Vanceburg. Dates and times have not been set.
RACELAND 12-15
Raceland fell in all three contests while dropping into the fourth seed for the upcoming district tournament.
Raceland lost 93-50 to Boyd County. Parker Ison had 15 to lead the Rams.
Raceland took a 54-52 loss to Lewis County eliminating a possible tiebreaker situation that would keep the Rams out of the fourth seed. Raceland led early and trailed late but had a look at the basket before the final horn for the tie but only drew rim on the attempt. Christian Large led the Rams with 17. Connor Thacker added 11. Jonah Arnett kicked in 10.
Raceland closed the week with a loss to Fairview, 71-62. After a strong start by the Rams, Fairview took a 13-12 lead in the first that started a back-and-forth affair the rest of the way until the Eagles regained the lead for good midway through the fourth. Thacker had 21 for the Rams. Landyn Newman and Arnett each had 12. Large finished with 10.
Raceland welcomes Greenup County Monday and Lawrence County Friday.
GREENUP COUNTY 11-15
The Musketeers turned in a 2-0 week with wins over Russell and West Carter.
Greenup County defeated West Carter, 66-54. Bradley Adkins paced the Musketeers with 18 points. Cohen Underwood and Eli Adkins had 14. Bryson Chandley netted 10.
Greenup County sent a shockwave through the 63rd District with a 58-42 throttling of Russell at ‘The Marv’ to snap the Devils 16-game winning streak. Bradley Adkins led the Musketeers with 16 points. Carson Wireman dropped 15. Eli Adkins added 13.
Greenup County visits Raceland Monday night, Elliott County Thursday and welcomes Montgomery County Friday.
