When someone hears “roller skating,” they may begin to search for memories from their childhood and adolescent outings with friends. Weekends may have been spent shuffling skate floors or riding the pine and acrylic furniture found in most roller rinks around the globe. There are approximately 1,179 roller rinks within the United States as of 2024, making each one especially unique and valuable.

One may think that a rink is strictly for skating in circles; however, there are several styles of roller rink skating. Artistic skating is a style that combines dance-like movement with precise footwork and may incorporate jumps and spins. Speed skating is competitive and defines physical ability and agility. Jam skating combines breakdancing and shuffling, performed in groups near the center of the rink. Rhythm skating refers to skating smoothly while dancing. Recreational skating is universal and promotes rolling around the rink with friends and family as we converse and take in the atmosphere within the rink. No matter what type of skating is taking place, there is an assured good time as we roll into the evening and make new memories with good company.

Weekly work schedules may look the same day in and day out—until we find that perfect recreational addition to our daily routines. As temperatures begin to lower for the fall season, indoor destinations become prime recreational settings, allowing us a place to burn off some energy without the concern of staying warm. Whether looking for some midweek fun or a bit of nostalgia, Garden Roller Rink of Ashland, Kentucky, has made room for the hardworking adults in the area to let loose.

Garden Roller Rink is now running a skating special for adults every second Thursday of the month. Beginning September 11th at 6:30 p.m. and ending at 9:00 p.m., adults gain entry for $5.00 and may rent skates on a first-come, first-served basis. A live DJ is on site spinning fresh sounds for everyone to jam out to, playing hits from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and today. Requests for songs and sets may be submitted, as each night may be unique given the crowd and participants. Refreshments are available and may be purchased at the snack bar, including nachos, mozzarella sticks, pretzels, corn dogs, on-tap sodas, energy drinks, and Gatorade. What better way to spend the evening than with good company, sharing a healthy activity and wholesome fun for everyone?

Anyone interested in cutting loose for a few good hours with the Garden Roller Rink Adult Skate is welcome to attend, as this event is hosted for all adults 18 years of age or older. For those interested in attending, the event will be held on September 11th, October 9th, November 13th, January 8th, February 12th, March 12th, April 9th, and May 14th.
