The leaves are falling, the temperatures are dropping, but the list of things to do in our area is growing! This season brings many festivals and other opportunities for you and your family to get outside and enjoy activities together, and what better way to spend that time than by attending a carnival for a great cause — the Holy Family Carnival!
On Saturday, October 17, Holy Family Catholic Church and School will host this exciting fundraising event from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the school campus, located at 900 Winchester Avenue in Ashland. Games, face painting, a dunk tank, karaoke, a beer garden and even a haunted house are just a few of the things you’ll find at this highly anticipated event! You’ll want to come hungry; food trucks, including Hibachi Express, B&T’s and Sweet-N-Sassy Cotton Candy, will be onsite! If you have a sweet tooth and a little luck, you just might be going home with some sugary treats from the Cake Wheel!
Does it get any better? Yes! This carnival will directly benefit the parish and the school. According to Holy Family School PTO President Rachel Johnson, the fundraiser will help fund a much-needed playground update, in addition to countless necessary expenses that a small private school and church are subject to in order to keep their doors open. Johnson went on to say that, aside from raising funds, this is simply a great way to bring the community together.
An event this grand doesn’t organize itself; it’s most definitely a team effort. Besides the hard work of the PTO, Johnson also gives credit to the Holy Family Church hospitality committee, in addition to the well-known Knights of Columbus organization.
The Christian school serves children from preschool through eighth grade, as well as students in ninth through 12th grade at its collegiate high school. It was recently recognized as eastern Kentucky’s oldest school, having been established in 1863 and still running strong to this day. The school welcomes children of all beliefs and even has tuition assistance available for children who qualify. It is an active school, offering several sports teams and clubs for the kids alongside learning in a wholesome, Christ-centered environment with small class sizes.
Admission to the Holy Family Carnival is $10 per person and free for children 3 and under. Come one, come all to what’s bound to be a great time for an even greater cause! Interested in donating your time and talent to the Cake Wheel? The hosts are seeking goodies such as pies, cakes, bread, cupcakes and brownies for the winners to take home. The school is accepting donations of baked goods, both homemade and store-bought, which may be dropped off at the school on Friday, October 16. Pickup can be arranged as well.
For any questions regarding donations of baked goods, contact Kate Miller at 606.585.3898 or Peg Adams at 606.923.3795. See you there!
