Catlettsburg will celebrate Labor Day with a full slate of community events, live entertainment, music, food and family activities throughout the holiday weekend.

The festivities begin Thursday, Sept. 3, with the 9th Annual Gate City 5K, presented by the Ashland Kiwanis Breakfast Club. The race will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Catlettsburg Municipal Building, 3015 Louisa Street.

On Friday, Sept. 4, residents can attend the Mayor’s Reception at 26th Street and the riverfront. Hosted by Mayor Faith Day, the event begins at 5:00 p.m. and will feature music by the Nickell Alley Band.

Saturday, Sept. 5, will feature a variety of entertainment. Pro Wrestling will take place at 7:00 p.m. at Catlettsburg Ballpark, 3739 Park Street. Admission is free, and attendees are encouraged to bring a chair.

At 6:00 p.m., the riverfront will host Riverside Farm to Fork, a special event featuring music by Holly Forbes. The event requires a ticket, with proceeds benefiting the Boyd County 4-H Camping Program.

Sunday, Sept. 6, will begin with a Thomas R. Brown CHS Class Reunion at Catlettsburg Elementary School, 3348 Court Street. Doors open at 3:00 p.m., with the program beginning at 4:00 p.m. and dinner at 5:00 p.m.

A community Worship Service, hosted by River Valley Church, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Sunday on the Courthouse Lawn at 2800 Louisa Street. Gospel music will be provided by Chosen Road. The concert is presented by England Hill Freewill Baptist Church and will begin at 4:00 p.m.; attendees are encouraged to bring chairs.

The holiday celebration reaches its peak Monday, Sept. 7, with Catlettsburg’s Labor Day Parade. Parade line-up begins at 8:30 a.m. at Oakland Avenue Baptist Church, with the parade getting underway at 10:00 a.m. The theme is “Our American Story.”

Chad Hedrick and Evan Moore will serve as grand marshals. The parade will also recognize the C.J.H.S. Class of 1976. Andrew Greene will serve as parade announcer.

Following the parade, the community can enjoy an invocation by Rev. Richard Brown of First Presbyterian Church, the Pledge of Allegiance led by Mike Wurts, and the National Anthem performed by Holly Forbes. Elizabeth Baker & Company will perform “My Old Kentucky Home.”

Monday’s festivities will also include craft and food vendors from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., along with free JumpStreet inflatables beginning at 11:00 a.m. Entertainment on the Courthouse Stage will feature Catlettsburg’s very own, Charlie Bocook at 11:00 a.m., Brayden Coleman at noon, and Mike Doolin at 2:00 p.m.

The evening will conclude with live music on the 26th Street Main Stage. Diamond Rio will take the stage at 8:30 p.m., with Cledus T. Judd serving as emcee. The event will also feature Shelby Lore, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Fireworks will follow the concert at approximately 9:30 p.m.

With events ranging from a 5K and class reunion to worship, wrestling, live music, a parade and fireworks, Catlettsburg’s Labor Day celebration promises a weekend filled with activities for residents and visitors of all ages.
