A Healthier Pick Me Up

The Ashland Beacon

Preparing for a workout or finding the right lunchtime boost can open a world of decisions and opportunities, with cafes and restaurants spanning the downtown Ashland area. When strolling the newly renovated downtown scene, one may notice numerous burger joints, boutique stores, art shops, or lounges. Healthy, satisfying selections are only a stroll away and within a reasonable commute, providing us with refreshing accommodations to fuel us through our day.
Smoothies have become a staple in “on the go” food culture, allowing people everywhere the luxury of refueling with cleaner, healthier alternatives to daily intake. Made popular in the ’60s and nudged into our day-to-day routines, smoothies bring to the table a meal in a drink. From the Orange Julius to lean Green Smoothies, there are countless combinations and mixtures to satiate the tastebuds. There are protein-packed smoothies offering fuel for the day, smoothies made with yogurt and other dairy products for anyone looking to curb an appetite and fill their bellies with cool, delightful goodness, and smoothies made from a mixture of veggies and fruits to help add a little something in the way of nutrients and vitamins. Green tea and coffee may find their way into our smoothies as well, as we look to push through another productive day on the grind.
Nestled into the ever-bustling Art District of Ashland, Kentucky, is a smoothie shop with an expansive menu focused on providing customers with healthy solutions to their daily needs. Empower 606, a community-conscious and friendly smoothie business modeled on giving back to customers, is located at 1517 Winchester Avenue, just to the right of the Ashland Visitors Center, providing easy street-front access. A boasting menu with several smoothie options for anyone looking to up their smoothie game is available, as they offer diabetic-friendly options while also catering to the expanding fitness community. Several energy blends are on the menu containing green tea and protein, making a perfect pre-workout option. For nature-focused individuals, there are organic options on the menu as well. Simple hydration is an Empower 606 menu basis, as smoothies containing magnesium, salt, fruits, and veggies make a perfect electrolyte solution on a hot and steamy day. Caffeine-free options are available also, providing customers with a smoothie option with less kick. Protein refreshers are available, containing a protein boost with a mixture like Crystal Lite and other hydration items. Most smoothies created by Empower 606 are of the “Herbalife” smoothie base, made up of vitamins, proteins, and plant-based enhancements, making for a healthy treat to carry us through the day.
Owners and operators of Empower 606, Cameryn and Caden Harden, invite everyone to the smoothie shop on Friday, Aug. 29, for customer appreciation, as everyone who walks in can expect a discount on all menu items. The focus and model of the Empower 606 smoothie shop is to give back to their customers and communities while establishing a healthy alternative for our fast-paced lives. Located at 1517 Winchester Avenue, Suite B, and other locations such as Portsmouth, Jackson, and Hillsborough, Ohio, Empower 606 has a storefront available for those on the commute, allowing anyone who may be visiting or working in the area a familiar shop to dine with.
