Hosts Pickleball for Beginners Class

Whether playing with friends, family, or in a quick pick-up game at a local net, pickleball sets the stage for a wonderful time. Pickleball is said to have been invented sometime in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, Washington. With smaller paddles in place of larger tennis racquets and lighter balls, swinging is made easier, providing a more accessible game for everyone to enjoy. A game founded on pick-up members and old sports equipment is now a staple in communities across the globe.
As warmer weather makes its way into the area, signaling spring and a change of the seasons, First Christian Church Disciples of Christ of Ashland, Kentucky, would like to invite everyone to their first pickleball workshop, “Pickleball for Beginners.” The decision to host the pickleball workshop was made in observation of the youth group, who have shown interest in the game. This workshop is intended to bring people together for a fun time while educating those who are interested in how to play. Groups will be set up with nets, paddles, and pickleballs provided by the church members. Each group will be introduced to the rules of the game first to establish a broader understanding for those who may not have been introduced to pickleball. Once rules have been disclosed, attenders will be walked through the process of serving, volleying, and any other techniques that may be used. Groups may participate in games and contests once guidelines are covered, as it will allow everyone to enjoy playing, having developed an understanding.
Provisions for the pickleball workshop will be limited to the games and workshops only and will not cover refreshments. When playing pickleball, a good sweat may be worked up as we slap paddles and slam lingering balls back across the net to our opponents. As there will be exercise involved, water or other desired beverages should be brought by participants to prevent dehydration or overheating during their pickleball experience. Appropriate attire, such as a stable, breathable pair of shoes, comfortable clothing that is capable of being played in for an extended period, and any other items desired during the course, are advised. Participants of the workshop are also permitted to bring their own pickleball paddles to the event if they choose to do so.
Anyone who is interested in attending First Christian Church Disciples of Christ’s “Pickleball for Beginners”workshop will be required to register for the event in advance. Registration for the event can be done over the phone by calling 606.324.5335 or via Facebook
