The Greenup County Quilt Guild will host the annual Handcrafted Weekend on Saturday, April 11, from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 12, from Noon to 3:00 p.m. at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park. The event is held each spring on the second weekend in April and is underwritten by the Greenup County Tourism Commission in collaboration with the Greenup Extension Arts Council and the Greenup County Quilt Guild. 

The Greenup County Quilt Guild has held the quilt show for many years. Each year the first-floor conference room at the Jesse Stuart Lodge is filled with many beautiful vintage, heritage, and modern-day quilts as well as other quilted items.

In 2023, the event was expanded to include local artisans that demonstrate their handcrafted skills for Handcrafted Weekend. The specially curated group of invited artisans also have their product for sale. Those attending the event may interact with the artisans for a hands-on activity to try the artform. Purchasing an item from the artisans helps them to continue in their artform as well as boosting the local economy by shopping local.

“I believe this event is important because it provides the space for anyone to experience artmaking,” said Anne Stephens, Agent for Community Arts with the Greenup County UK Cooperative Extension Office. “The skilled artisan makes it look easy, but the layperson quickly learns that it is years of skill building and experience that brings the result of art.”

Handcrafted Weekend will include such artforms as pottery making, fiber art, painting, sculpture, carving, sewing, luthiers, bread making, jewelry making and much more. This year, a special guest will be Blenko Glass, on Saturday only, to demonstrate glass blowing. They will also have a display of items. Another special part of the Handcrafted Weekend is an Old-Time Music Jam session at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

“Greenup County is proud to have a state resort park in our community,” Stephens said. “We welcome locals as well as out-of-town visitors to enjoy our natural beauty and opportunities for outdoor adventure.”

The Angler’s Cove Restaurant at Greenbo will have their delicious buffet available on both days for the event. Accommodations for the weekend may be reserved by calling the Jesse Stuart Lodge.
