In the wake of devastating floods across Kentucky, local organizations are coming together with a mission to provide relief to those impacted. Toppings Moving Services and Appalachia Reach Out (ARO) are partnering up with Reverend Garrett Mills to help flood victims in eastern Kentucky—and they need your help!
Appalachia Reach Out (ARO) is a well-established foundation committed to making a difference in the Appalachian region. They have been at the forefront of providing aid for years, and now they’re teaming up with Toppings Moving Services for a special mission. Jack Hanks, Owner of Toppings Moving, says, “Over the next few days, Toppings Moving Services and Appalachia Reach Out are working together to support the flood victims of eastern Kentucky. We’ll have one of our moving trucks parked downtown Ashland near Broadway Square on Friday, March 7, to collect donations for those affected by the floods. We are excited to be working closely with Dwayne Mills, the Executive Director of ARO, and his father Garrett Mills to make this happen.”
While monetary donations are always appreciated (which can be made out to ARO), there are also specific items the victims need right now. “Right now, what they really need are fans, dehumidifiers, industrial buckets, and industrial squeegees,” shared Hanks. These simple items will make a world of difference to those trying to rebuild their lives after the flooding.
ARO has been a vital force in the Appalachian region, spanning across 13 states from southern New York to northern Mississippi. The organization operates from Martin County, Kentucky, an area deeply affected by isolation and poverty. ARO focuses on four key areas:
Addiction Recovery Support – Partnering with local recovery programs, ARO provides hot meals, enrichment activities, and support to individuals working through addiction.
Education – ARO supports local schools with tutoring, food and supply donations, and even home repairs for families in need.
Work & Witness – Volunteers from all over the country come to ARO to help with home repairs, park improvements, and more.
Community & Leadership Development – ARO works alongside local leaders to drive change, build community resources, and develop sustainable solutions for long-term growth.
ARO’s outreach is powerful—whether it's providing meals for those in recovery, offering tutoring for local kids, or leading groups of volunteers to help families with home repairs, ARO's work is making a tangible impact every day. This is where you come in! There are many ways to contribute and make a real difference in the lives of flood victims:
Donate items: Bring fans, dehumidifiers, industrial buckets, and industrial squeegees to the donation truck in Ashland.
Give monetarily: Every dollar counts to help ARO continue their mission in Kentucky.
Volunteer your time: Whether it's offering your physical help on the ground or lending a hand to organize donations, your time is valuable.
Don't miss out on this opportunity to help. The people of eastern Kentucky need us now more than ever—and together, we can bring hope to those who need it most.
So, mark your calendar for Friday, March 7, and be a part of something special. Together, we can help those in need rebuild and recover from these difficult times!
