Paws Inn Keeper to Host
Community Dog Show This Summer

For the third year in a row, a local pet care business is turning its love for dogs into a community celebration designed to bring neighbors together.
Paws Inn Keeper, owned by Jennifer Madden, will host a dog show featuring lighthearted competition, local judges and a variety of categories including biggest dog, smallest dog, most handsome and owner look-a-like.
The event, slated for June. 27, at the Depot and will last approximately one hour, with prizes awarded in each category.
The show is free to attend, and participants can simply check in the day of the event. “The whole idea is to have fun and celebrate your dog,” Madden said.
While the dog show serves as the event’s centerpiece, it also reflects the deeper mission behind Paws Inn Keeper—building meaningful connections within the community.
“I am so lucky to be able to have a business, and it is because of Olive Hill that we are thriving,” Madden said. “I'm not doing anything special...it's the town that's special.”
Paws Inn Keeper began with a dream years in the making. When Madden’s granddaughter, Riley, was in fifth grade, she shared her goal of one day owning a dog hotel. In 2020, as Riley’s post-high school plans shifted due to the pandemic, Madden revisited that dream and converted a garage into a dog kennel and boarding business.
What started as a small operation quickly grew. After a friend suggested adding grooming services, the business expanded, and Riley joined the team a year later. Since opening, Paws Inn Keeper has expanded three times and is currently undergoing its fourth expansion to accommodate the needs of the community.
The business offers a range of services including grooming, boarding, daycare and a boutique, all centered around personalized care. “I don't just want to be a dog groomer. I want to take care of your dog because they are part of your family,” Madden said. “We are here to make relationships. We serve our friends and neighbors.”
Boarding and daycare services are designed with both safety and comfort in mind. A staff member is on site 24/7, and the team provides one-on-one care while building relationships with each dog. Pet owners receive regular photo updates, and dogs are only introduced to others after establishing familiarity.
The facility also features an on-site playground and emphasizes consistency, with the same employees caring for pets during each visit. Paws Inn Keeper operates with an all-female staff and a strong focus on workplace culture. “A happy employee is a good employee,” Madden said.
Grooming services at Paws Inn Keeper prioritize both quality and education. The business uses shampoos imported from Italy and invests in what Madden describes as “state of the art gentle dryers” and “the best equipment money can buy” to ensure a positive experience for every dog. The team also works closely with pet owners to discuss skincare and maintenance between visits. “I've been a dog owner all my life and I didn't know how ignorant I was until I started this business. I want to share that growth with my customers,” she said.
Riley is currently undergoing training to become a dog anesthetist, helping reduce stress for dogs during grooming.
In addition to its pet care services, the business expanded this year with the launch of an embroidery shop, Threads by Coco. The venture was inspired by Madden’s daughter, Corrissa, who was seeking a more creative and fulfilling career path.
Opening the embroidery business, Madden said, “made her a happier person and have a higher quality of life,” adding that they “jumped in with both feet.”
For Madden, the upcoming dog show is another way to give back to the community that has supported her family’s business. “We want to give more than we get, and we recognize how lucky we are to be able to give back,” she said.
