School is a journey that doesn’t always have the same beginnings for every student, but it’s certain that the high school experience will come to an end. It’s the unique pathway for each student that makes the journey one to remember. Raceland senior Kody Haddix may not have begun her high school career at Raceland, but she has forged a memorable path that is going to lead to a great future.

Kody is the daughter of Aaron and Kristin Haddix. She began high school in Michigan but has been attending Raceland for three years. It didn’t take her long to begin making her mark in Ram Land. After coming to Raceland, Kody became involved in many school clubs and sports. “I participated in Beta and Key clubs, the Technical Student Association. In Key Club, I held the office position of Secretary.”

Aside from school clubs, Kody was an integral part of the Raceland volleyball team. Some of her favorite memories came from her time on the team. “My favorite memory is winning districts at Lewis County in my sophomore year and riding the bus home to be escorted by the fire trucks. Raceland volleyball has given me some of the best memories and friendships.”

Kody completed her volleyball career as the Raceland Volleyball program record holder for assists with 2,147 and aces with 155. She has also been a member of the Raceland Varsity Track Team.

Her transition to Raceland was aided by teachers whom she felt had been a great help along her journey. “I would like to thank Mrs. Hensley for all her support throughout my time at Raceland. Her class has been the most rewarding to take; the math and non-math related lessons I have learned will stick with me forever.”

Students who attend Raceland can attest to the fact that the small school environment where every student matters can help foster great memories. When a fellow student was given a terrible medical diagnosis, the district rallied around him to raise funds, and it made an impact on Kody. “Another fond memory to come from Raceland is the Kick it for Jake fundraiser that the school put on. For a whole day, the student body played kickball, which brought everyone together in a way I never thought possible.”

Like most other high school students, Kody has hobbies outside of school that keep her occupied. “My hobbies include working out, playing pickleball, baking, and reading.”

However, Kody has another high-flying hobby that has become a springboard for her future career. “Currently, I am in the process of earning my private pilot's license through Hanger 9 Foundation at the Ashland Regional Airport. I was chosen out of other students in the area to join the STEM program to earn my license while receiving college credit. This is an incredible opportunity that has allowed me to realize my full potential, and I will forever be grateful to the Ashland Regional Pilots Association for taking a chance on me.”

After high school Kody has a clear plan of how she plans to proceed. “Once I receive my license by late summer, I plan to continue my aviation education at Eastern Kentucky University in the fall of 2025. I will be majoring in Aerospace Management with a concentration in Unmanned Aircraft Systems. I chose this major because I wanted an aviation career that was stable and had a positive growth rate, along with my love for the field.”

When asked where she saw herself in ten years, Kody replied, “I can be sure that I will be a hard-working, kind individual who lives a happy, fulfilling life.” While it is completely impossible to predict the future, it appears quite clear that whatever Kody puts her mind to, she will work to see it achieved. Congratulations Kody Haddix on your achievements and may God bless your future endeavors.
