If you’re looking for a way to kick off a summer evening with the whole family, mark your calendars for Friday, July 17, 2026. The Boyd County Community & Economic Development office is rolling out the welcome mat for a completely free evening of summer fun that promises something for everyone—from toddlers to grandparents.
The event will take place on the football field behind the Boyd County Preschool, starting at 6:00 p.m. The highlight of the night? A showing of the beloved animated classic Finding Nemo on a giant outdoor screen once the sun goes down at 9:00 p.m. But the fun doesn’t start and end with the movie; it’s the array of activities leading up to the credits that make this night truly special. This is all about bringing our community together for a safe, joyful, and memorable evening.
From the moment the gates open, families can dive into a world of water inflatables—perfect for cooling off on a hot July evening. A foam party will add an extra layer of frothy fun, while the craft and games area will keep creative minds and energetic bodies busy. For fans of whimsy, Peanut the Clown will be on hand twisting balloon animals into everything from dachshunds to dinosaurs. And if you’ve ever wanted a temporary tattoo, Faith will be working her face-painting magic—offering everything from glittery butterflies to superhero masks.
No outdoor movie night is complete without snacks, and Boyd County is pulling out all the stops. Free hot dogs and nachos will be served early in the evening to keep hunger at bay. Then, once the movie begins, the popcorn and candy will flow freely.
For those with a sweet tooth and a craving for something icy, Kona Ice will be available on-site. While the event is free, food and drink from Kona Ice will be available for purchase, so bring a few dollars if you want a shaved ice treat.
As twilight falls and the sky darkens, families are encouraged to grab their lawn chairs, blankets, and pillows and settle in for Finding Nemo. This Pixar classic is about a clownfish named Marlin who crosses the ocean to rescue his son, Nemo. This movie is a crowd-pleaser for all ages. The outdoor setting, with the stars overhead and the summer breeze, promises a cinematic experience like no other.
It’s a chance to unplug, relax, and share a laugh or a tear together. We can’t wait to see the field filled with families enjoying the night.
This event is entirely free and open to the public. There are no tickets, no registration, and no hidden fees. The Boyd County Community & Economic Development department is hosting the night as a gift to the community and to foster connections in a relaxed, joyful environment.
The football field behind Boyd County Preschool provides ample space for activities and seating. In case of inclement weather, updates will be posted on the Boyd County Community & Economic Development social media pages and local news outlets.
So, pack up the kids, grab your camping chairs, and head to the football field on Friday, July 17. Whether you’re there for the foam party, the hot dogs, or just to watch Nemo find his way home, one thing is certain: it’s going to be a summer evening to remember.
