Get ready, Ashland! One of the community's most meaningful and exciting celebrations is just around the corner.

This Friday, June 19, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., friends, families, and neighbors from across the Tri-State area are invited to gather at Broadway Square in Downtown Ashland for the 6th Annual Juneteenth in Ashland celebration—a free, family-friendly event filled with music, food, fun, and fellowship.

Juneteenth—also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day, and Emancipation Day—commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. It marks a pivotal moment in our nation's history and serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing pursuit of freedom, equality, and justice.

But Juneteenth is more than a celebration of the past. It is an opportunity to come together as a community, reflect on how far we've come, and recommit ourselves to building a brighter future together. Because Black history is not a side story. It is not separate. It is not optional. It is essential—and it belongs to all of us.

The stories, struggles, achievements, and contributions of Black Americans are woven into every chapter of our nation's journey. Understanding and celebrating Black history helps us better understand America itself. It teaches us resilience, courage, innovation, and the enduring power of hope.

That powerful truth lives at the heart of the C.B. Nuckolls Community Center & Black History Museum in Ashland, Kentucky. Dedicated to preserving, uplifting, and sharing the extraordinary stories of Black Americans, the museum stands as a living reminder that our history is strongest when every voice is heard and every story is told. That's why Juneteenth matters. And that's why we're inviting everyone to celebrate.

This year's event promises to be one of the biggest and most exciting yet! Attendees can enjoy inspiring live performances from Christ Temple Church and Brett Higgins & The Family, creating an evening filled with uplifting music and unforgettable energy.

Come hungry because some amazing local favorites will be serving up delicious food, including Almost Philly and Reservoir Hogz BBQ. Craving something sweet? Be sure to stop by SweetSassy Cotton Candy & Treats for a tasty treat.

Families with children will find plenty to enjoy as well, with face painting by Face Painting by Faith, fun kids' activities, and plenty of opportunities to create lasting memories together.

Bring your lawn chair, bring your family, and bring a friend. Most importantly, bring your community spirit.

There's something truly special about gathering together to share food, music, stories, and laughter. That's what Juneteenth in Ashland has become—a celebration where neighbors become friends, history comes alive, and people of all ages and backgrounds come together in unity.

Over the past several years, our Juneteenth celebrations have created unforgettable moments at venues throughout Ashland, from Central Park to the C.B. Nuckolls Community Center & Black History Museum. Each event has strengthened community connections while honoring an important chapter in American history. This year's celebration continues that tradition.

Hosted by Ashland for Change, the C.B. Nuckolls Community Center & Black History Museum, Christ Temple Church, Christ Center Ministries, and Ashland Community & Technical College, this event is made possible through the generosity of community partners, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who believe in the power of bringing people together. As always, admission is completely FREE.

So, mark your calendar, spread the word, and get ready for an evening filled with freedom, culture, history, music, food, and community.

Join us Friday, June 19, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Broadway Square in Downtown Ashland for the 6th Annual Juneteenth in Ashland celebration.

Let's celebrate freedom. Let's celebrate community. Let's celebrate the history that belongs to all of us.

We'll see you there!
