Get ready for one of the most exciting family events of the summer—the 3rd Annual Touch A Truck is rolling into the Boyd County Community Center on June 6th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.!
The first hour of the event will be sensory-friendly, featuring dimmed lights and reduced noise levels to accommodate all attendees.
Kasey Abrams, Boyd County’s Community Development Director, shared her enthusiasm for the event, saying she loves “being able to host free events for the community.” Accessibility is a top priority for Abrams, who emphasizes the importance of making events free and family-friendly so everyone can enjoy them.
“Kids get to experience positive relationships with community partners,” Abrams explained. These interactions are especially meaningful with emergency responders. “Some of them have already had negative experiences” with them, so this event gives them a chance to “come out and have a good time and make some fun memories.” She added, “having those fun interactions with people in our community is a good experience for them.”
And the fun doesn’t stop there! Every child will receive one free Kona Ice, and parents can purchase one for themselves. Hungry? Abrams shared that they’ll be grilling hot dogs and serving nachos—a new addition for guests with gluten sensitivities.
From fire trucks and ambulances to tractors and monster trucks, kids will have a blast exploring a wide variety of vehicles. Want more? How about face painting, free balloon animals, crafts, and inflatables—all at no cost!
Special guests include Batman with the Batmobile and the Eastern Kentucky Ghostbusters with their iconic Ecto-1. Don’t miss Peanut the Clown, who will be twisting up balloon creations, and Face Painting by Faith, offering fantastic face art.
The lineup of vehicles is nothing short of epic:
• A mini excavator from Boyd C.A.T.
• An Army LHS (Load Handling System)
• A race car from Bodies by Bentley
• The mobile command unit from Boyd County Emergency Management
• The Boyd County Public Library van
• A Mack truck from the Boyd County Road Department
• Tractors from Bridgeport and Davis Equipment Company
• An SxS from Tri-State Powersports
• The WalkFm car
Even the skies will be part of the action, with HealthNet’s helicopter making an appearance! Other incredible vehicles include:
• A semi-truck from Hilco
• A line service truck from Kentucky Power
• A quick attack/hose truck from Marathon Petroleum
• A rotor wrecker from McGuire’s Towing
• A monster truck from Electrified Pro Mud & Monster Truck Racing
Returning this year is Groomo with their mobile pet grooming van—“they came last year and the kids really enjoyed it,” Abrams recalled.
As the event approaches, Abrams extends a heartfelt “thank you to all of the sponsors that donated and to all of the volunteers” who make the magic happen. She adds, “we’re looking forward to it,” and hopes “to see everyone have a good time.”
So, mark your calendars and bring the whole family—Touch A Truck is back and bigger than ever!
