RUSSELL 71 MORGAN COUNTY 57
Russell got a balanced offensive attack from four players finishing in double figures while going 96.3% (26-27) from the foul line to get by Morgan County in the opening round, 71-57.
Caleb Rimmer led the Devils with 18 points and four rebounds while going 10-10 from the charity stripe. Gabe Pridemore kicked in 18 points as well. Kaiden Benge added 15 points, four rebounds and six assists. Ryder Burgess finished with 13.
Russell met Boyd County Monday night in the semifinals.
BOYD COUNTY 86 FLEMING COUNTY 56
Boyd County wanted to send a message to the regional field when they opened the tournament with Fleming County.
An 86-56 win over the Panthers sent that message loud and clear.
Jacob Spurlock led the Lions with 29 points while setting the 16th Region Tournament record for most 3s in a game (9) and most attempted (18). Spurlock’s three-point barrage was a part of 16 Lions triples in the win. Cole Hicks netted four 3s of his own for 18 points and seven assists. Jackson Childers tallied 12 points and 13 rebounds. Ethan Rardon tacked on 10 points. Rhett Holbrook added nine points and eight assists. Boyd had 27 assists in the win which tied the region record held by Elliott County from 2009.
Boyd met Russell in the semifinals Monday night.
ASHLAND 77 ELLIOTT COUNTY 38
Ashland never let Elliott County get a punch off.
The Tomcats blitzed the Lions out of the gate for a 31-7 first-quarter lead and never looked back the rest of the way. Zander Carter poured in 22 points in the win to lead the Tomcats. Caleb Clarke added 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds. River Lynch tossed in 10.
Ashland forced 16 turnovers while converting those into 24 points while tallying 46 points in the paint.
Ashland met Rowan County in the semifinals Monday night.
ROWAN COUNTY 51 RACELAND 41
It was a defensive standoff when Raceland and Rowan County met in the opening round.
The Vikings took a 2-0 lead and never relinquished it in a 51-41 victory over the Rams.
Rowan led 20-15 at the break and moved out 30-21 after three. Raceland struggled from the field as only one Ram finished in double figures as Jonah Arnett finished with 19 points. The sophomore’s final point on the night gave him his 1,000th in his career.
Raceland closes the season at 22-9.
