Grab your calendars and get your tickets, it’s almost time for “The 2025 Boyd County GOP Lincoln Dinner.” In honor of President Abraham Lincloln and his historically recognized accomplishments with the Republican party, dinners are held each year commemorating his service. Elected in 1860 Abraham Lincoln became the first Republican President of the United States, paving the way for a new world. Within one month of the 1861 Presidential Inauguration, President Lincoln had already began restructuring the country in support of the people by initiating the Civil War at Fort Sumter. By 1862 President Lincoln had driven the United States into new territory with the Homestead Act, allowing 160 acres to those brave enough to venture into the westwardly unknown. On January 1st, 1863, President Lincoln addressed the entire country proclaiming freedom for all slaves form the Confederate territory delivering the “Emancipation Proclamation.” Following the Emancipation Proclamation, President Lincoln successfully abolished slavery through the Thirteenth Amendment passed just after his death in 1865. Recognizing the vast effects of President Lincoln’s administration, each Lincoln dinner held is in honor of one of the most epic Republican candidates to have ever served our country.
