Balancing life and work can sometimes feel like more than we can handle, especially when we face what seems like an insurmountable obstacle. What happens when we add education to the mix and try to juggle all three, along with other part-time jobs? There never seems to be enough time in the day to get everything done. Making sure everyone in our homes is taken care of while pushing through the after-work exhaustion that comes from spending hours staring at screens and communicating with the communities we serve can make returning to a learning environment seem like an unattainable goal. However, there seems to be a way to get everything done when we meet others who appear to have figured out the secret to balancing time and responsibilities. It turns out that the answer to our adult time constraints lies in balancing our schedules and knowing where to start to get our education back on track.
Finding the right place to get our lives on track does not always mean finding the right job or meeting the right people. Often, it means stepping into an educational setting alongside other adults and receiving guidance in the direction that best suits our needs. Located at Ashland Community & Technical College, 1400 College Drive in Ashland, Kentucky, Boyd County Adult Education (BCAE) offers adults a place to begin that journey. In Room G108 of the Goodpastor Building, the Boyd County Adult Education Center provides resources to help individuals along the way. No matter which path you are looking for, from earning a General Educational Development (GED) credential to developing computer literacy, the BCAE center offers resources to help you take control of your future. Whether you are interested in finding a better job or returning to school to discover where your skills and interests may best fit, the available classes and workshops are designed to help you reach your goals.
The Boyd County Adult Education Center is hosting an open house on October 15 from noon to 7 p.m., where visitors can discover opportunities to further their education and develop employable skills. Instructors Patty May and Annie Adams are eager to help visitors rediscover their potential. Guests can take a brief assessment to determine a starting point and develop a plan to work toward a diploma or master skills in their desired trades. According to May, the open house is meant to “give people the opportunity to learn about the new space and services we offer.” The new space at ACTC provides a more convenient and welcoming learning environment while giving the community access to resources that can change lives. In addition to GED preparation, students can develop literacy, mathematical, and reading comprehension skills. Educational resources are also complemented by social support designed to provide students with stability as they work toward their goals and build connections with others.
Taking a step toward success may be as simple as visiting Boyd County Adult Education. Vouchers are available to help fund educational expenses, along with books that students can borrow and ongoing support. The BCAE center is open Monday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The program serves adults ages 18 and older, and everyone is welcome.
Making life-changing decisions can be overwhelming, and achieving a better future can seem like a distant dream when we are left to find our own way. Fortunately, we do not have to do it alone. The Boyd County Adult Education Center at ACTC is ready to help individuals find their path forward. You can visit the ACTC campus and head to Room G108 or contact the center through its Facebook page, Boyd County Adult Education.
Building a better life for ourselves and our families is not an impossible dream; it is a reality within reach at the College Drive location. Find your calling in life and pursue the education you deserve at the Boyd County Adult Education Center in Ashland, Kentucky.
