Get ready to throw on your feathers, flapper dresses, and fedoras—because Hope’s Place Child Advocacy Center is cruising into the weekend with style, sparkle, and a whole lot of heart. This Saturday, the Ohio River will shimmer with sequins and swing as the annual Riverboat Cruise fundraiser sets sail once again, and this year’s theme, The Gatsby Gala, promises to be a roaring good time.

Since its maiden voyage in 2018, the Riverboat Cruise has become a standout event in the Tri-State region—a night where fun meets philanthropy, and community members come together to make a real difference in the lives of children impacted by abuse.

“The idea was presented by a former employee who had been on the Cincinnati Belle and thought it would be a unique fundraiser... and she was right! Thank you, Erica Myers!” said Lisa J. Phelps, M.Ed., LPCC-S, NCC, Executive Director of Hope's Place Child Advocacy Center.

And a unique fundraiser it certainly has become. Over the years, the event has raised nearly $100,000, with all proceeds going directly to provide free trauma treatment services, including mental health counseling, advocacy, and specialized medical exams for children and families impacted by physical and sexual abuse, human trafficking, and other forms of trauma.

“This event is an adult (21 and over) event with dinner, dancing, open bar, bourbon pull, vacation raffle, live DJ (Mark Cole) and other entertainment!” shared Phelps. “Each theme is unique and fun, but I think my favorite was the original Pirate theme. However, this year's theme is shaping up to be amazing!”

The annual cruise is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a party with a purpose. Held on the last Saturday of July each year, it gives guests a chance to let loose for a cause. From a lively dance floor to a dazzling vacation raffle, this cruise is brimming with ways to give back while having a blast.

“I think my favorite part is seeing friends, family and supporters embrace the theme and dress the part! It is such fun to see all the unique costumes and to see how creative everyone gets,” said Phelps.

Want to join in the fun? Individual tickets or full tables are available and can be purchased at www.hopesplace.org or by calling Hope’s Place at 606.325.4737 and asking for Cassie Murphy. For those looking to give even more, donations are warmly welcomed. Bottles of bourbon and specialty liquor can be dropped off at the Hope’s Place office Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or call to schedule a pickup. The same goes for raffle prizes—think sporting event tickets, handmade items, gift certificates, or anything unique that adds a touch of flair to the event.

“We received some special bottles of bourbon, spa gift certificates, UK signed basketball and other amazing gift items,” explained an excited Phelps, highlighting the generosity of the community and local businesses.

The true beauty of this event, though, is in the mission it supports. Hope’s Place provides a safe, welcoming environment where young survivors of abuse can begin to heal, and no family is ever charged for services. By simply stepping onto the riverboat this Saturday, guests will be helping rewrite stories of pain into stories of hope.

“Hope's Place Child Advocacy Center appreciates the continued support of our community, and we would love to see some new faces join us for The Gatsby Gala this year,” stated Phelps.

So, don your pearls and pinstripes, and step aboard for a night of glamour and generosity. Whether you're dancing under the stars, sipping bourbon for a cause, or simply soaking in the riverside views, you’ll be helping make the world a brighter, safer place for the most vulnerable among us.

This Saturday, the river won’t be the only thing flowing—so will the kindness, joy, and community spirit. The Gatsby Gala awaits—see you on the deck!
