A Community Rallies Behind One of Its Own

Some people spend their lives making a difference in their communities, never asking for recognition or expecting anything in return. Evan Moore is one of those people. Now, as he faces the fight of his life, the community he has so faithfully served has an opportunity to stand behind him.

A Junior Fireman with the Catlettsburg Fire Department, Evan has dedicated his time to protecting the town he loves and being there for his neighbors when they need him most. Whether responding to a call or giving his time in service to others, he has demonstrated what it truly means to be part of a community. His willingness to serve is a reflection of his character and the compassion he has for the people around him.

In May of this year, Evan's life took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with a rare heart condition. His battle has required not one, but two artificial heart pumps. Unfortunately, the surgeries have brought numerous complications, and Evan remains hospitalized while waiting for a donor heart that could give him a chance at a healthier future. What should be some of the most exciting years of a young man's life have instead become a journey filled with medical challenges, uncertainty, and difficult days for both Evan and his family.

The road ahead is not an easy one. Between hospital stays, complex procedures, and ongoing medical care, the financial burden continues to grow. While his family focuses on his health and the hope of a transplant, the expenses surrounding his treatment are an additional challenge no family should have to face alone.

Despite the challenges he faces, Evan's story is also one of courage, perseverance, and the power of community. This year, his dedication to Catlettsburg was recognized when he was selected as one of the Grand Marshals of the Catlettsburg Labor Day Parade. It was a fitting honor for someone who has given so much of himself to the town and its residents. That recognition represents more than a parade appearance; it reflects the appreciation and respect of a community that knows the value of his service.

Now, it is our turn to give back.

The Fighting For Evan Fund has been established to help Evan and his family with the overwhelming medical expenses that have accumulated and continue to grow throughout his treatment. Community members are encouraged to show their support by purchasing a fundraising T-shirt. All proceeds from the sales will go directly to Evan and his family to help ease the financial burden during this incredibly difficult time.

There are also other ways to contribute:

  • Order a T-shirt: Visit Fighting For Evan Fundraising Store.

  • Donate through PayPal: Send a donation to Samuel Kersey.

  • Make a donation in person: Contributions can be dropped off at any Kentucky Farmer’s Bank location.

Every contribution, regardless of its size, is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference. Sharing the fundraiser with friends, family, and coworkers can also help spread the word and bring even more support to Evan and his loved ones.

Evan has spent his time showing up for his community, answering the call to help others without expecting anything in return. Today, he and his family need that same community to show up for them.

Let's come together, support one of our own, and remind Evan that he does not have to fight this battle alone. Catlettsburg has always been a community that looks out for its own. Now is the time to show Evan just how much he means to us. Together, we are Fighting For Evan.
