Springtime elegance will be in full bloom this week as the Highlands DO!zeum invites the community to experience an afternoon of sophistication, fashion and timeless charm during its upcoming “Steeped in Style” Royal Tea and Fashion Show on Saturday, May 17, at 3 p.m.
The highly anticipated event promises guests a royal-inspired experience filled with tea, fashion, shopping and memorable moments in one of Ashland’s most unique venues. Organizers say the afternoon is designed to capture the grace and glamour of classic tea traditions while adding the excitement and creativity of a modern fashion showcase.
Guests are encouraged to gather friends, dress in their spring finest and prepare for an afternoon filled with elegance and fun. From stylish outfits and charming décor to boutique vendors and perfectly steeped tea, “Steeped in Style” aims to create an unforgettable social experience for attendees of all ages.
Adding even more excitement to the occasion will be special guest Melanie Simpson Conley, whom organizers refer to as “Miss Forever Kentucky,” will make an appearance during the event. Organizers say her presence will bring an extra touch of grace, beauty and sophistication to the celebration.
“This event is all about creating special memories while celebrating timeless traditions,” organizers said. “We want guests to feel like they are stepping into a royal spring gathering filled with fashion, friendship and elegance.”
The tradition of royal tea parties’ dates back centuries and became especially popular in England during the 1800s. Afternoon tea was introduced by Anna, the Duchess of Bedford, who began requesting tea and light snacks between lunch and dinner to satisfy late-afternoon hunger. The custom quickly became a fashionable social activity among aristocrats and eventually evolved into elaborate gatherings associated with royalty, refined etiquette and elegant style.
Tea parties later spread throughout Europe and the United States, becoming popular social events where guests could gather to enjoy conversation, fine china, pastries and tea in beautifully decorated settings. Today, tea parties remain beloved traditions often associated with celebrations, charity events and seasonal gatherings.
Fashion shows also carry a rich and glamorous history. Modern fashion shows first gained popularity in Paris during the late 19th century when designers began presenting their latest creations to elite audiences. Over time, runway events evolved into major cultural experiences showcasing artistry, creativity and personal style. Today’s fashion shows blend entertainment, confidence and design while offering local businesses and boutiques the chance to highlight current trends.
At “Steeped in Style,” guests will enjoy a combination of these two classic traditions brought together in one elegant afternoon. Boutique vendors participating in the event include Dandelion Patch, Merle Norman, Pretty and Poised, Small Fries and Zella Rose. Attendees will have the opportunity to browse fashionable items, beauty products and unique gifts while enjoying the elegant atmosphere.
Museum officials are also encouraging community members to explore the benefits of becoming a Highlands DO!zeum member. Members receive discounted admission to the event along with reciprocal benefits and special opportunities throughout the year, making this an ideal time to join.
Tickets for “Steeped in Style” are $30 for members and $35 for non-members. Seating is limited, and organizers strongly encourage guests to reserve their spots early.
Whether attending for the tea, the fashion, the shopping or simply the chance to enjoy an afternoon out with friends, organizers say guests can expect a truly enchanting experience.
For one special spring afternoon, the Highlands DO!zeum will transform into a scene worthy of royalty — complete with elegance, charm and a celebration of timeless style.
