As the holiday season has moved in, with it comes the new year bringing with it hope that something mysterious and exciting may await just around the turn of the calendar. While some of us may pack into city squares grinning through the cold weather and blustery winds of winter others may decide to spend their time indoors watching from afar surrounded with jovial bursts of laughter and celebratory cheers. Wherever we decide to bring in the start of a new year should be some place special, as it is a celebration of life and the continuation of annual traditions passed down by those who came before us.
This year the El Hasa Shriners of Boyd County, Kentucky have invited everyone to their New Year’s Eve party on Dec. 31. Set to open at 6:00 p.m. the event will carry the party into next year with a live DJ and a cash bar with plenty of refreshments. Entry for the event is $10 per person and will get party goers in for the warm air and fun filled atmosphere provided by the El Hasa temple. Nachos, hot dogs, pizza, and possibly hamburgers will be available for purchase to satisfy the hunger worked up from all the excitement. Along with a live DJ there may be Karaoke for everyone to sing their hearts out with as we shout and cheer our way into the night.
While this event is brought to fruition with celebration of the new year in mind it is also hosted with the intent of giving to children in need as it is the nature of the Shriners. A percentage earned from the New Year’s event will be donated to children’s hospitals as with all funded events of the El Hasa Temple. The El Hasa Temple was part of a $276,000 donation this year with $13,500 coming from a trivia event that has been greatly successful throughout the area bringing in several donations for children in need. There have been numerous themes for the trivia nights ranging from Christmas and Thanksgiving themed to fun themes of the evening decided on by the Shriners. With the new year Potentate Elect J.L. Mick and Chief Rabban Elect Jeremy Lowe are planning on extending the trivia events as they have been a successful production for charitable efforts as well as making for enjoyable evenings with likeminded friends.
What started in 1872 as the Ancient Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine later developed into the 1905 establishment of the Henry Clay Club and a year later the 37th Shrine Temple. Focused on community, they have presented at and hosted parades, and fund-raising events for decades in our area, bringing joy to everyone they encounter. Steeped in cultural history and mystery, the Shriners have a global reach capable of helping children and those in need all over the earth. With every event they host or are a part of they bring people together to lift those who may not be able to themselves.
While planning our New Year’s celebration this year the Shriners of Ashland, Kentucky may have just what the doctor ordered. Located at 13450 State Route 180, the El Hasa Temple has a New Year’s Party awaiting to rock the night away for everyone who desires to attend. For any other information about the event their office number is 606.928.9529 and they are happy to answer any questions you may have about the event or donation inquiries. Let’s get ready for the New Year’s countdown with the El Hasa Temple and Ashland, Kentucky Shriners.
