Lions Fall in Final Four

Trinity’s mascot is the Shamrocks. But the No. 1 team in the state did not need the luck of the Irish to secure a berth in the State Championship game after they knocked off Boyd County, 5-0 in the semis.

Trinity jumped out early with a run in the first to put Boyd playing from behind, but the Shamrocks would kick in two more in the third and add a run each in the fourth and sixth. However, one run would be more than enough as Trinity starter Grayson Davis would fire a no-hitter against the potent Boyd County lineup. Boyd’s lone runners came from a pair of walks and a hit batter, but they never moved a runner to second base in the loss.

Trinity came from behind in extra innings in the State Championship game against Pleasure Ridge Park. Nolan Hosking’s home run in the bottom of the eighth knotted the game at one and Caleb Ricks single up the middle knocked in the winning run in the ninth to give Trinity a 2-1 win and their second State Championship.

Grant Slater and Brayden Coleman were named to the All-Tournament team for the Lions. Slater suffered only his second loss of the season while working three innings in the start. Slater allowed four hits, three runs—all earned—walked three and struck out a pair.

Boyd closes the season at 31-6 while departing a trio of seniors in Caleb Gray, Brogan Jones and Kyle Cordial.
