ASHLAND 47 HARRISON COUNTY 7

Ashland had little interest in allowing their guests to enjoy the view of the new turf at Putnam Stadium.

Instead, Harrison County spend most of the contest watching the Tomcats run away from them on the field as well as the scoreboard as Ashland pounded their first-round foe, 47-7 in the opening round of the Class 4A playoffs. Ashland scored four touchdowns in the opening frame and added two more before the half.

Cam Davis opened the scoring with a 57-yard hookup with LaBryant Strader on the senior quarterbacks first of four passing touchdowns on the night. Braxton Jennings added his first of two touchdowns with a 6-yard run three minutes later. Maverick Ashby plunged into the endzone with a 2-yard score and Jennings ended the frame with a 10-yard strike from Strader.

Mason Wolfe kicked in a 6-yard touchdown from Strader and Dylan Duckwyler’s 45-yard reception from Strader sent the Tomcats to the break leading 40-0. Trevonte Taylor closed the Ashland scoring with a 3-yard run in the third.

Strader finished 10 of 13 for 184 yards. Taylor led the Tomcats with 58 rushing yards on five totes. Davis caught two passes for 65 yards.

Ashland welcomes Mason County Friday night in the second round.

MASON COUNTY 59 GREENUP COUNTY 21

Tyson Sammons final game as a Musketeers ended with 173 passing yards with three interceptions. He rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Austin Walker added the final score. Jasper Davis caught seven passes for 57 yards.

  Greenup closes the season 8-3.

Elijah Hankins threw for 143 yards and three touchdowns as the Devils pushed a 14-0 first-quarter lead to 41-7 at the half. Cayden Pennington, Caden Mitchell and Jayden Pennington all caught touchdown passes. Ivan McDaniels, Jordan Rowe, Kaiden Benge and Ben Totten added rushing scores.

Coldiron’s 59 yarder was the longest on the night. Brewer had a 55 yarder and King’s lone carry went 35 yards to the house. Davidson also threw for a score, a 3-yard pass to Charlie Vanderhoof.
