ASHLAND 4-1
Ashland started fast. The Tomcats went even faster in the second quarter.
Ashland dropped 14 points in the first then followed by a 21-point second frame to put the clock in motion in a 48-7 beatdown of Russell.
Sam Lyons started the scoring barrage for the Tomcats with a 40-yard pass from LaBryant Strader and a 7-0 lead. Cam Davis streaked 30 yards three minutes later to push the lead to 14 after one. Davis owned the second quarter with a pair of touchdowns bookending a Braxton Jennings 12-yard scoring run. Davis hauled in a 40-yard strike from Strader and put the clock in motion with 3:24 to play in the opening half with a 22-yard run.
Maverick Ashby joined the party with a 1-yard run midway through the third and Caleb Conway streaked 58 yards to the house to close the scoring in the fourth.
Strader went 11 of 13 for 203 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jennings rushed for 64 yards on seven totes. Sam Lyons turned in his second 100+ yard receiving game of the season with 113 yards on five balls. Mason Wolfe had an interception and Rieday Rucker tallied a sack.
Ashland starts district play with a trip to Greenup County Friday night.
BOYD COUNTY 3-1
Boyd County was idle this week. The Lions welcomes Johnson Central to open district play Friday night.
FAIRVIEW 3-1
After lighting up the scoreboard last week for 60 points in a win over Morgan, Fairview wanted to keep the momentum rolling again this week when the Eagles entertained Green, OH.
The Eagles never missed a beat in the first half after hanging 42 points on the scoreboard in a 42-20 thumping of the Bobcats.
Jeffery Everetts opened the scoring for Fairview with a 5-yard run midway through the first and an 80-yard pass from Jace Manning to Xavien Kouns gave the Eagles a 14-0 lead. Manning dashed 43 yards to paydirt and Everetts tacked on his second score of the night with a 72-yard scamper.
Izaac Johnson had a pair of touchdown receptions from Manning of 31 and 21 yards for a 42-14 halftime lead.
Manning finished with 236 yards and three touchdowns. Kouns hauled in 120 yards on three catches. Johnson went for 116 on four catches. Everetts also added an interception.
Fairview is off to its best start since 2013 when their current head coach Alex Roy was a sophomore.
Fairview welcomes Powell County Friday night.
GREENUP COUNTY 5-0
Full steam ahead is the current motto for Greenup County.
The Musketeers lit up the scoreboard on the Farm Friday night with a 63-35 walloping of Montgomery County to move to a perfect 5-0 on the season heading into district play.
Tyson Sammons accounted for 338 all-purpose yards and six touchdowns in the win. Sammons ran for 201 on 10 carries and four scores while throwing for 137 and two more. Austin Walker added 108 yards on the ground and a score. Waylon Perkins, Jasper Davis and Drew Boggs each added scores.
Greenup welcomes Ashland Friday night.
RACELAND 1-2
In a matter of minutes, a stellar defensive effort by Raceland’s defense had gone by the wayside.
After controlling the ball for much of the first half, Raceland watched Highlands roll off 14 points before the break then follow with a 68-yard kickoff return to the house to open the third as the Bluebirds blanked the Rams, 35-0.
Raceland limited Highlands to only 162 total yards of offense but was held to only 131 total yards themselves. Parker Ison and Jacob Waller continued to share snaps at quarterback while combining for only 53 passing yards and a pair of interceptions.
Raceland makes a trip to Newport Central Catholic Friday night.
RUSSELL 2-3
Russell could only watch as Ashland stomped up and down the new turf surface at Putnam Stadium. Ashland had a running clock in motion before halftime as Russell would fall, 48-7.
Elijah Hankins provided the only score for the Devils with a rushing touchdown. Russell was held to only 115 total yards of offense.
Russell welcomes Fleming County Friday night.
