ASHLAND 6-1

Ashland scored at will when the Tomcats visited Rowan County Friday night.

LaBryant Strader was near perfect on the night, missing only one passing attempt in 11 throws while throwing for 233 yards and three scores in a 55-7 beatdown of the Vikings in Morehead.

Strader tossed scoring passes to Sam Lyons, Braxton Jennings and Dylan Duckwyler while the Ashland rushing attack added four more scores. Daylen Farrow led the way with 114 yards on only five carries. Xavier Johnson, Caleb Conway, Cam Davis and Jennings each added rushing touchdowns.

Ashland tallied three sacks and nine tackles for loss along with a Davis interception.

Ashland welcomes Boyd Friday night.

BOYD COUNTY 3-3

A shootout in Lloyd Friday night when Boyd visited Greenup County resulted in the Lions chasing Tyson Sammons all night long. The problem was they never caught him. Sammons scored six rushing touchdowns to account for all of Greenup’s points as the Lions fell 42-37.

Layton Henry got the Lions out in front early in the contest with a 32-yard field goal. But the lead was short lived as Sammons’ first score came 1:30 later as the shootout was well underway. Boyd regained the lead after a pair of scores on Rhett Holbrook passes, a 7-yard toss to Cole Hicks and a 35 yarder to Kaleb Kelley to put the Lions up 17-14 with 2:05 to play in the half. The lead lasted about 90 seconds as Sammons scored again for a 22-17 lead at the break.

Kelley opened the second half with fireworks on a 77-yard kickoff return to push the Lions back in front, but Sammons answered with two more scores. Holbrook danced to paydirt from 5 yards out to cut the Greenup lead to 36-31 after three. Erik Germann pushed Boyd back in front with 1:46 to play in the contest but Sammons final scamper on the night traveled 76 yards 30 seconds later as Greenup took the lead for good.

Holbrook rushed for 131 for the Lions and threw for 196 more.

Boyd heads to Ashland Friday night.

FAIRVIEW 3-2

Fairview’s game against Powell County scheduled for September 27 was moved to Monday September 30 due to the weather and resulted in a 59-18 Eagles loss. Jace Manning passed for 220 yards and three scores and Xavien Kouns had seven receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.

A long trip to Carlisle for the Eagles Friday night left a sour taste in their mouths to start district play.

Nicholas County grounded Fairview’s aerial assault to roll to a 58-30 win. Jace Manning was held to only 81 yards while going 2 of 11 through the air with a touchdown and interception. Jeffery Everetts lone catch went 46 yards to paydirt. Jace Murray had one of three rushing scores for the Eagles with a team-high 72 yards. Xavien Kouns and Manning each added a rushing score.

Fairview welcomes Raceland Friday night.

GREENUP COUNTY 6-1

Where there is a Sammons there is a way.

Tyson Sammons racked up over 400 offensive yards on senior night on the Farm to lead Greenup to a 42-37 win over Boyd County.

As good as Sammons was offensively, his defensive numbers were as equally impressive to the tune of 19 tackles and a game-clinching interception inside of two minutes to play in the game.

Sammons finished with 266 rushing yards while throwing for 156 more.

Greenup exercises its bye week this week.

RACELAND 3-3

Raceland’s defense needed only two plays to force a Hazard turnover Friday night. They only needed 6++three plays to find paydirt as the Rams routed the Bulldogs, 42-8 in running clock fashion.

Shannon Marushi paced the Rams with three rushing touchdowns on seven carries as the Rams put the running clock in motion before halftime. Landen Stiltner danced nine yards to the endzone to open the scoring for a 7-0 lead. After a sluggish rest of the first quarter, the Rams offense came to life in the second. Jacob Waller tossed a 23-yard strike to Jonah Arnett for a 13-0 lead early in the second and Marushi added a pair of 4-yard scores to the mix. After the Rams defense made a stop to get the ball back before the break, the Bulldogs offered little resistance to slow them down. Ayden Cooper turned in a pair of big runs to lead the Rams to the one and Waller surged in to finish things off and a 35-0, running clock lead at the half.

Waller threw for 124 yards while going 8 of 9 on the night. Cooper led the Rams rushing attack with 59 yards on six totes. Bryson Rowsey had 46 yards on three catches in his second game back from injury.

Raceland heads to Fairview Friday to open district play.

RUSSELL 4-3

Russell had little resistance from West Carter Friday night as the Devils rolled to a 31-3 win.

Jordan Rowe led the Devils with 93 rushing yards on only four carries with a score. Ben Totten added 69 yards on 10 totes. Kaden Benge scored as well. Elijah Hankins went 3 of 6 for 53 yards with a TD and interception. Caden Mitchell was the recipient of the passing touchdown.
