Beginning on November 21, 2025, and running through November 23, Imel’s Greenhouse in Greenup, Kentucky will be hosting a new event called Imel’s Winter Market. The greenhouse has been host to many events over the years including the annual Farm 2 Table event, the largest in the state of Kentucky, and owner Kenny Imel said that the Winter Market is the latest in a series of events designed to bring the community together for mutual support.

This year’s event will bring together over 50 vendors from around the area showcasing sweet treats, handmade soaps, boutique apparel, delicious sourdough breads, woodcrafts, crochet items, jewelry, ornaments, wreaths, seasonal décor, porch geese, and other unique holiday gifts. In addition, patrons of the event will be able to enjoy fresh Amish donuts, hot chocolate, coffee, pulled-pork sandwiches, and a lot more.

And for the younger members of your group (or really anyone), don’t forget to say hello to Imel’s ‘reindeer-in-training’, their signature goats who enjoy the events as much as everyone else.

The event began with Imel’s Greenhouse partnering with the Farmer’s Market for Christmas in the Country, Greenhouse owner Kenny Imel said. The Farmer’s Market decided that this year they were going to change their venue to Greenbo Lake State Resort Park in December, and Imel decided that there would still be a need for a seasonal event earlier in the year. So, though local residents won’t be seeing ‘Christmas in the Country’ this year, they will instead be able to enjoy two great events for the Christmas season.

The three-day event at Imel’s is free to the public, complete with everything mentioned on the greenhouse Facebook page, and everyone attending will be able to ‘warm up’ to the upcoming season with not only hot chocolate and fun, but crowd favorites offered by local food trucks. Each vendor will offer their own unique items, and everyone is invited to browse through and support their neighbors from around the region.

“It is all about support our community and bringing the community together,” Kenny Imel said. “All the fees from the vendors ($75) will go right back into the community. $1,000 will go to our scholarship fund in memory of my dad and uncle,” Imel said. “And the rest of those fees will go to Argillite Elementary to support the kids in whatever they need.”

Imel said that that an important aspect of the Winter Market that he feels people will appreciate is the combination of handmade items as well as boutique items such as clothing. “It’s not just one type of market,” he said. “It’s more an eclectic mix of everything.”

Imel said that when he first partnered with the Farmer’s Market, the event was a way for local vendors to finish off their season on a positive note. “And I want to continue that,” he said. “We want to make a good community market that everyone can attend at the end of the season, enjoy themselves, get ready for winter.”

Events such as the Winter Market help the community in a lot of ways, Imel said. The free event, complete with free  and convenient parking, allows vendors to make a little money, allows shoppers to pick up things they might not have been able to get during the year, and puts money back into the community. These types of events also lend themselves to other ways of support the community in difficult economic times, Imel said.

“We are going to be doing a canned food drive at the event,” Imel said. “Everyone who wants to donate can bring a can of food for our food drive. There will be a place set up as you come in to drop off your cans, and after the event the canned food will be donated to the Argillite Community Center. They do an excellent job helping to feed people in need,” Imel said. And as a huge bonus to this aspect of the market, Imel said an anonymous donor has promised to double every can donated to the food drive.

“The community has been good to Imel’s Greenhouse,” Imel said. “And we want to give back to the community that has supported us for so many years.” Imel is quick to point out that it isn’t just about him and his family business, because every event the greenhouse is involved in is good for a wide variety of individuals and businesses – which is why they are involved, to help their friends and neighbors grow.

“We are fortunate to have this space,” Imel said of the greenhouse and its multiple covered buildings. “And we want to share that with everyone.”

Coming in a week before Black Friday (and Cyber Monday) shopping, Imel’s Winter Market will be the kickoff for the Christmas season. With multiple days and extended hours, shoppers can browse and return if they choose, taking it all in on one day and purchasing the next if they so choose.

“We just want everyone to have fun and enjoy themselves,” Imel said of the Winter Market. “Visit with your friends, get something good to eat, and maybe buy a few things for your family or yourself,” he said. “And don’t forget to pet the ‘reindeer-in-training’. The goats really enjoy that.”

Imel’s Greenhouse is located at 2836 State Route 1 in Greenup, Kentucky. For more information visit their Facebook Page or call at 606- 473-1708.
